I think a good way to make it work is, the number of units/buildings in each area that surrounds it should be compared against the number on that square, and that would determine how many days it would take. I explained it really bad because I don't have an example, but basically the idea is, the more attackers you have, the less time it should take.

What I meant by the first part is, in this example:
B
A E C
D

Square A has 5 attackers, B has 4, C has 4, and D has 3. So the seige would play out as if there were 3 attackers.

Jeez I'm explaining this bad, but you see my point? Maybe?
