Not a paradox, just an extreme amount of work for the Speaker.

At first, yes.
1) The Speaker must assign the Office to someone.
2) Then the Speaker sees that the new Monsanto Man has some generic
Veggies.
3) MM resigns.
And now we are at 1) again.
In effect, every time we know who MM is, he/she resigns.
That's all fine and well (since MM has no duties to perform) - until next
time Monsanto Man spreads his vile poison (27/3 20.32).
Then we don't know who MM is, and therefore we don't know who will lose
Veggies.
Or, if someone made a CFJ. Everyone could refuse appointment, since they are
_not_ MM - or they could not refuse, since they _are_ MM.
If a CFJ arose on this point, Martin's Judgement would still have come
first, so if that Judgement stands, Kira will still win the first game.

It is game custom that the Speaker does not instantaneously select officers. Rather, the Speaker does this in a day or so. We must assume that during this time, noone is MM.
MM resigns immediately after appointment (rule 361), so we will in fact always be waiting for the Speaker to select a new MM.
My conclusion is, that we will effectively have no MM until a player qualifies.
O>If a CFJ arose on this point, Martin's Judgement would still have come O>first, so if that Judgement stands, Kira will still win the first game.
While I personally agree, others might claim that since rule 350 takes precedence over all rules when selecting a winner, it doesn't matter who's first.
(Small correction: rule 350 is immutable).

Game custom consists of several elements, one of which is game fiction.
It is game fiction that the Ants vote immediately before voting deadline,
for instance.
If we take a look at Peter's repeals, we'll also see a case of game fiction.
379 caused Christian to resign as A.P., while 380 caused Peter to resign as
A.P.
If we followed Rune's idea, we would have been without A.P. until after
Rune's proposal of ending the game, which was the last of that batch of
proposals.
While 350 _does_ take precedence for finding the winner, it does _not_ take
precedence for ending the game. The game ends when we have found a winner
(372).
If someone made a CFJ on the MM thing, he/she might win according to 350,
but that would be in the next game.
Do you propose the transmutation of 350, Rune?

I really don't like to include game fiction into the game custom. I see the game fiction as a thing that is entirely individual to each player.
What is common to all players is only the rules, and our way of interpreting the rules, and the messages we send to each other. Each player makes up his own fiction from that.
For instance, one player may think of a vegetable as having physical presence in a fictive game world, while another player may think of it as a theoretical concept.
To get back to the Monsanto Man discussion: Actually, I do accept your point, though I discard your argument. My own argument for arriving at the same conclusion would be:
It is game custom that the Speaker doesn't have to do his jobs immediately. But it is also game custom that the Speaker must do his jobs in the original sequence. So if he delays appointing a new MM, he must also delay all further occurrences in the game. The result is that the speaker is hooked up upon selecting MMs, and can do nothing else.
It is my opinion that even if the MM rule creates some kind of infinite hole, it is not the entire game that is sucked into the hole, only those rules that the MM rule takes precendence over. If it is possible to continue the game play using only those rules that have precendence over the MM rule, then continued play is not impossible, and the paradox rule does not apply.
In fact, unless you grant me that, you can't even apply the paradox rule, since game play has stopped entirely.

The main problem here is that if we don't know who is MM, we can't keep
track of the Vegetables. If we can't keep track of the Vegetables, taxation
and Martyrdom become impractical, to say the least.
It looks like we are saying the same thing on the game fiction-subject. The
Speaker must do a number of things, in the correct order, but he/she need
not do them at the correct time (this is a place where common sense might be
useful).
We'll need to look into the effects of not knowing who Monsanto Man is.

(2 - 1)
413 'Amend 402' (Ole):For: Ant #9, Rune, Ant #8, Ole, TOO-BAD, Cult of the
Ant Against: none -adopted (5.33 - none). Ole becomes Zeitgeist
State before these proposals:
"Ole Andersen, palnatoke@g... , Speaker, Cult of the Ant,
Zeitgeist, -8
points, ten Insistance Points and two (generic) Vegetables
Kira Tendal, aeshna@g... , Citizen, 101 points and fifty-five
(generic) Vegetables
Christian Mønsted, dr@m... , Citizen, -11 points and forty-seven
(generic) Vegetables
Rune Kock, rune@i... , Citizen, Cult of the Ant, holder of the Office of
Agriculture, 54 points, five Insistance Points, three acorns and thirteen
(generic) Vegetables
Peter Gadebirk, gadebirk@p... , Citizen, Ambulant Psychiatrist, -68
points, eleven Insistance Points and thirty-seven (generic) Vegetables,
Silly
Martin P. Jensen, mpj@c... , Citizen, -48 points and three Vegetables
All are in Central Square, except for
Christian, who is in East Farm, and
Kira and Peter, who are in North Farm.
Total # of points: 20
Average # of points: 3.33"
Ole will gain 12 Vegetables, being Speaker.
Ole will lose 5 points (3 props adopted, 3 defeated, 1 package defeated).
Ole will gain 3 Insistance Points.
Ole will receive 1 Vegetable from Rune for becoming Zeitgeist.
Ole will give 5 Vegetables to Ant #10.
Kira will collect 12 Vegetables in North Farm.
Christian will collect 12 Vegetables in East Farm.
Rune will give Ole 1 Vegetable for becoming Zeitgeist.
Rune will gain 5 points (1 package defeated, 1 prop defeated, 2 props
adopted).
Rune will gain 1 Insistance Point.
Rune will give 7 Vegetables to Ant #8.
Peter will collect 12 Vegetables at North Farm.
Martin: no losses and gains.
All of this is based on Monsanto Man _not_ spreading his poison.
MM _will_ spread his vile poison.
This will cause each player a loss of 0 to 10 Vegetables, depending on MM's
location at voting time.
Therefore, the Vegetable losses (-) and gains (+) for each player will be:
Ole: -2 to +8
Kira: +2 to +12
Christian: +2 to +12
Rune: -6 to +4
Peter: +2 to +12
Martin: -10 to 0.
The main problem with this is that we can't know if I have a Vegetable with
which to bribe Ant #10 on prop 406.
If I don't, the proposal is adopted, and Rune gains 20 points more, while
not getting the Insistance Point.
If at any time I have no Vegetables I become Prophet, btw.

As can be seen from the latest batch of proposals, it is now extremely hard
to find out if our proposals can be adopted.
I propose an Easter Break.
During this break, I will try to extract what is good in the current rules.
Then I will make a whole new "initial" ruleset. Please let me know what each
of you like about the current ruleset (and what you dislike).
