Guidelines for Blind Nomic
Blind Nomic is unlike other Nomics in that
you start out not knowing what the rules are. So if you don't know
the rules, what can you do? The answer is pretty much anything you
think of or feel like, and if it works or doesn't work I'll probably let
you know.
Many of the things you try at first probably
won't work. Don't let this discourage you; if nothing else you now
know a smidgen about the rules, in that whatever you tried is against them.
Feedback is your friend; this is one of the probably few Nomic variants
in which failure is as beneficial as success.
Please note, though, that Blind Nomic does
carry some thin, hushed-up, illegitimate filial relationship to Imperial
Nomic, which means your actions and submissions are subject to my final
approval. A given submission may be perfectly legal according to
the rules, and yet rejected anyway by me. Some of the most easily
explained types of rules that won't pass me are:
-
Password Rules: rules
that restrict actions to those that satisfy some criteria known only to
me, the submitting player, and those he chooses to enlighten. This
may be a word, a phrase, a grammatical structure, whatever. If it
seems as if a rule is restricting your actions, you may conclude that it
was my opinion when it was added to the ruleset that you are able, using
feedback and available information, to determine how to satisfy it.
-
No-op Rules: rules that
do nothing and/or have no effect on the game. These take up space
in the ruleset as well as my time when I'm evaluating actions, and cause
unnecessary confusion (as opposed to the necessary confusion that's integral
to the game). I don't guarantee that every single rule is not a no-op;
I only guarantee that I tried to make it that way.
-
Obfuscation Rules: rules
that make less information available than before. Seems counterproductive.
This is not an exhaustive list, but beyond this list
things more commonly get into case-by-case bases. Just remember that
I'm as much a feedback mechanism as the rules are.
Your, er, guy who's running this game...
