The first thing you ought to do is read the current ruleset. It
is available from the main Ackanomic web page. Even if you don't
understand all of the rules immediately, it still helps to read
them through once. If you are feeling industrious, you might also
want to attempt to read through the archive of proposals and calls
for judgement (CFJs). None of this is required to join (there
is no entry test to make sure that you know it) but it is highly
reccomended. Becoming familiar with the game before jumping in
and playing is a wise idea.
Once you feel that you have a good feel for the game, send a message to the Registrar informing them of your desire to join the game. The current Registrar is Phil Ackley (his Ackanomic name is snowgod) and his email address is snowgod@alaska.net .
Once the Registrar receives your request to join he will send you a list of the current players and their email addresses, and will formally announce your arrival to the other players. Also, if you have any questions about the game, email the Registrar -- that is one of their jobs! That's all there is to it. You can quit the game at any time by the same process (informing the Registrar that you wish to) or by announcing it publicly.
If you are not sure if you wish to join, you also have the option of becoming an observer. As an observer you will have all Ackanomic email sent to you. You can participate in discussions, but you cannot vote or make proposals. You will essentially be able to watch the game without being a player. To do this, send email to the Registrar and he will get it arranged.
So why don't you send email to the Registrar and join Ackanomic right now?
